The Commonwealth were introducing a new debt management system based on Microsoft .NET. Given the complexity of the system, they wanted to create over 30 hours of e-learning to support new starters and provide refresher training.
The 60+ modules were to combine background knowledge with interactive scenario-based learning.
We started by looking at a series of typical modules to understand how we needed to design and develop the slide templates. We also established a way of working with the subject matter expert, whereby they provided the content in a suitable way for us to understand and process effectively.
The interactive simulations included a combination of narrated videos and PowerPoint slides with draft screenshots. We took this information, storyboarded the module and re-captured the screengrabs and screen-recordings in high-resolution. Once this was reviewed and signed-off by the client, we had the narration recorded professionally.
From a project management perspective we created a bespoke tracker for both internal and client use to monitor the progress on such a large number of modules. It included all relevant information, including links to review sites, to enable everyone to review efficiently and to avoid any information being lost or forgotten.
We encountered a few technical issues along the way, including the screen size being quite small. We combated this by adding JavaScript so that the module automatically started in full screen.
With a significant amount of work to undertake, it was imperative that we established clear and effective processes, both internally and with the subject matter expert. By the end of the project, we had cut the module development time by 75%. Despite the ambitious timeframe, we delivered on time and to budget.
The course was rolled out across the entire organisation to great success.
